You’ve read the recap. Now, let’s take a closer look inside the numbers from Charlotte’s wild win over UTSA Saturday afternoon.

  • Any story regarding UTSA likely starts with junior Roadrunner guard Jhivvan Jackson. I mentioned in the gamer that Jackson came in as the second-leading per-game scorer at 27.1 points per game, and that Charlotte coach Ron Sanchez mentioned the desire to hold both he and fellow guard Keaton Wallace below their averages. As I noted during the game:

  • While on the topic of Jackson, here’s another interesting note: Jackson hit 7-of-18 tries from the field, but just 1-of-11 from three. That’s his lowest total of made tries from beyond the arc since he hit just 1-of-4 in a home game against UTEP on January 18. Jackson tried a number of step-back threes, and another from between the 49er logo and the ring. While there’s some disappointment in Jackson getting 25, at least the star who came in shooting 35.8 percent from three hit 9.1 percent Saturday.
  • As crazy as this sounds, Jackson’s 25-point total was his fourth-lowest this year. Jackson scored eight against FAU on January 2, 20 against UAB on January 30, and 23 twice — against Southern Miss on January 11 and UTEP on January 18.
  • As for Wallace, Saturday marked his eighth game in a row scoring greater than 20 points. Wallace averaged 18.6 per tilt coming into the game, and has scored 20-plus every game since tallying 16 in that Southern Miss game nearly a month ago.
  • Jahmir Young worked himself free — seemingly — of a recent shooting slump from distance. As the great David Scott of the Charlotte Observer noted at the time:

Young would go on to hit 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, snag eight boards, dish out six helpers, and finish with 16 points.

  • Charlotte hit 11 three-pointers on the afternoon, tying a high the 49ers set on three other occasions this season. The 49ers hit 11 treys November 30 vs. USC Upstate, then did the same January 20 at Old Dominion and January 30 at Southern Miss. On all four occasion, the 49ers attempted between 24 and 26 triples.
  • Four Niners finished in double figures, and all four grabbed at least five boards. Charlotte hauled in 37 caroms on the day, with seven on the offensive end.
  • Without opining, the teams were whistled for a combined 49 fouls, and attempted a combined 67 free throws. The teams made as many attempts from the field (52) as they did from the foul line.
  • While speaking of free throws, Charlotte started the game 8-for-18, then finished the game hitting 18 of their final 20.
  • Finally, the Hustle Stats:
    • Points in the paint: UTSA 28, Charlotte 28
    • Points off turnovers: UTSA 14, Charlotte 12
    • Second-chance points: Charlotte 9, UTSA 6
    • Fast-break points: Charlotte 6, UTSA 4
    • Bench points: UTSA 23, Charlotte 12
