You’ve read the recap. Now, let’s go inside the numbers of FIU’s Sunday victory at Charlotte.
- To call Osaghae dominant would be an understatement. The senior from Miami finished just three points off his season-high, and one board shy of his best of the year against a D1 foe. The big man snagged greater than one-third of FIU’s 33 boards. He even dished an assist and recorded a steal.
- Charlotte logged its smallest number of three-point makes all year (2), connecting in one triple in each half. It was also the lowest three-point make percentage by far for the Niners this year, eclipsing a 19% mark (4-for-21) at Appalachian State on November 21.
- The 49ers had just one player (Cooper Robb, plus-1) in positive territory in efficiency ratings. Forward/center Amidou Bamba finished even. Four Niners finished in the negative double digits.
- Charlotte committed just nine fouls and sent FIU to the line just three times. That was tied for the second-lowest foul total the Niners have committed this year. The only lower total came in a 51-44 victory against UAB, in which Charlotte was whistled eight times.
- Most importantly, it was Senior Day at Charlotte.
- Finally, the Hustle Stats:
- Points off turnovers: Charlotte 13, FIU 11
- Points in the paint: FIU 46, Charlotte 30
- Second-chance points: FIU 21, Charlotte 9
- FIU corraled 11 offensive boards, and converted nearly all of them into points. Sanchez lamented this number in the postgame remarks, and commented on Charlotte’s inability to make “game-winning plays”, including getting offensive boards.
- Fast-break points: Charlotte 15, FIU 3
- Bench points: FIU 15, Charlotte 6
